About Benedict A. Dorsey


Benedict A. Dorsey, D.Th., is a native Baltimorean – gifted and passionate about his God, his family and his work! He is a Pastor, Playwright, Director, Advisor, Acting coach, motivated speaker, and award winning Filmmaker.

Benedict Dorsey received his Bachelor of Arts degree from Loyola University of Maryland, subsequently joined the U.S. Army and achieved the rank of Captain(p) before retiring and returning to Baltimore. He later received his Master of Theology and Doctor of Theology from Andersonville Theological Seminary, and a Master of Fine Arts in Creative Writing at FSU.

He has led churches in South Korea, Kentucky, Tennessee, and Maryland. He has served as the pastor of The New Light Church: Ministry of St. Luke 4:18-19, Inc for over 27 years. In addition, he is currently a Financial Aid Consultant and Student Success Coach for BridgeEdu, Director of Financial Aid at Johns Hopkins University, where he also serves as advisor for the Gospel Choir, advisor/director for the Dunbar-Baldwin-Hughes Theatre Company, and the care pastor for the Johns Hopkins University Beloved Community College Fellowship.  

Additionally, he is the president and founder of Benediction Productions, Inc., a Christian theater company and Benediction Films LLC producer of feature films. Lastly, Dorsey plays and musicals have been performed nationally and internationally. He started a new arm of his film company, 1.8.12 Film, LLC.
